AUTHORITY...

From the Latin word AUGERE, which means "to cause to grow," "to promote" or "to increase."

The word AUTHOR also comes from AUGERE. An author gives birth to a character and then "causes it to grow."

Too often, when we exercise AUTHORITY, we become AUTHORITARIAN and overbearing, trying to lord it over others.

To be truly AUTHORITATIVE we need to cause others to grow. It is there growth that gives us authority.

The truth is simple. We gain AUTHORITY not by lording it over others, but by serving others.

This is a paradox. But is the only way to be an effective leader.

We CAN do it!
