BOSS...
From
the Dutch word BAAS, which means "master" or in an earlier
time "uncle."
|
The
more ancient meaning is preferred.
When
you think of yourself as a BOSS, don't think you are
the master. Rather think of yourself as uncle, an
avuncular Dutch uncle.
|
The
word AVUNCULAR, which comes form the Latin word for "uncle"
or, more specifically, "maternal uncle," has come to describe
a kind and benevolent advisor.
The
phrase DUTCH UNCLE describes a fair but firm counselor.
In
a time when being a BOSS is changing radically, we will
be wise to see ourselves as both fair and firm and kindly
and benevolent.
It
can be done!
