BOSS...

From the Dutch word BAAS, which means "master" or in an earlier time "uncle."

The more ancient meaning is preferred.

When you think of yourself as a BOSS, don't think you are the master. Rather think of yourself as uncle, an avuncular Dutch uncle.

The word AVUNCULAR, which comes form the Latin word for "uncle" or, more specifically, "maternal uncle," has come to describe a kind and benevolent advisor.

The phrase DUTCH UNCLE describes a fair but firm counselor.

In a time when being a BOSS is changing radically, we will be wise to see ourselves as both fair and firm and kindly and benevolent.

It can be done!
