ROBERTS
CONSULTING INC.
The
people who make up Roberts Consulting, Inc. are all part
of the same family.
After a long career in higher education, the ministry
and the world of big business. Bill Roberts founded the
practice in 1993. For several years he worked solo.
In
the late 1990s two of his three sons, both of whom live
in California, joined him. David and Matthew were deeply
engaged in the practice - sometimes coming back east to
assist Bill, but more often working either alone or as
a two-person team with clients in California. They were
developing "Roberts Consulting, West Coast."
One
of their major clients was Ernst and Young, for whom both
David and Matthew became "knowledge workers" for a distinctive
consulting program called the Rapid Decision Center (RDC).
After a certain period of time Ernst and Young came to
David and offered him a permanent position with the RDC.
Once he joined Ernst and Young, he was not available to
work with Roberts Consulting.
Matthew
continued to work for the company for a few years, but
then he decided to get more training in his specialty
- creativity training using insights from the world of
the arts. He enrolled in an intensive one-year program
in Physical Theater at the Dell Arte School in Blue Lake,
California. During that year he did very little consulting.
After graduating, he began to take on constantly more
challenging assignments in the theater and became a member
of the faculty of Berkeley Rep Theater in Berkeley, California.
In the fall of 2004 he entered a Masters of Fine Arts
Program in Theater in Acting at the University of California
at Davis. Throughout all of this time, Matthew has been
teaching in high schools, at universities, for professional
theatre companies, and at UC Davis.
Matthew continues to fly back east to work with selected
clients, bringing his incredible creativity and teaching
skills to train leaders in both general communication
and in uncovering imaginative solutions to issues of effective
leadership. He also works with clients in the Bay Area.
Much of his attention is directed to the demanding program
at California, Davis. (See
most especially the pictures of an incredibly powerful
workshop using masks.)
During
this same period of time the other member of the consulting
team, Melissa, retired from twenty years as an educator
- both as a teacher and as a social worker. She has gotten
deeply involved activities in the City of Middletown,
most importantly as the President of the Friends of Long
Hill Estate, the site of the stunningly restored Wadsworth
Mansion. Primarily through her effective work, the Friends
sponsor many activities each year, including a summer
concert series that is sometimes called Tanglewood in
Middletown. You can learn more about all of this by looking
