JOB...
From
the old Celtic word GOB, which means "mouth or mouthful."
When
the Celts first started using the word GOB, and
then JOB, work was not divided up into jobs.
Families or villages, clans or guilds, self-organized
to get the work done.
|
THE
INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION changed that. It changed the way work
was organized. Someone realized you could take all the work
that needed to be done and partial it out in little "mouthfuls,"
which soon came to be called JOBS.
THE
INFORMATION REVOLUTION is forcing us to change again.
- Many
companies are eliminating jobs.
- Many
individuals are losing jobs.
- And
those who still have jobs are coming to realize that we've
got to reshape the way we work together.
Our
challenge is to manage these profound changes so that…..
- Work
becomes more productive,
- And
more meaningful,
- And
gives an enhanced sense of community.
It
CAN be done.
