OUR LOGO

Our logo is a symbolic mandala. Both words are important. The word SYMBOLIC literally means to throw or to hold together (from the Old French words SYM - together - and BALLEIN - to throw.) By the way, the word DIABOLIC means just the opposite; it means to throw or tear apart.

And a MANDALA, which is most often depicted as a square within a circle, is one of the oldest symbols of transformation. A mandala is often seen as a symbol of the transformed Self, or, perhaps more honestly, as a symbol of the Self in the process of transformation.

Let us quote from Jungian scholar, Jolande Jacobi:

Mandalas are among the oldest religious symbols of mankind; we have examples from as far back as the Paleolithic age. They occur among all peoples and in all cultures, even in the form of sand paintings, as among the Pueblo Indians. Perhaps the most impressive mandalas, showing the greatest artist finish, are those of the East, particularly the Tibetan Buddhists.

Let us share one other quote about a mandala. When Bill Roberts went through his own transformative experience at midlife, he was visited by several powerful and informative dreams. One involved a mandala. The dream goes like this:

I am a young boy walking with an older man to a square of some old Mexican Indian village. The old man tells me, "There is a great waterfall in the center of the square. It has all the energy in the world. It gives off a spray and a great deal of noise. We will be in a fog. There will be a terrible din. You will not be able to see me, except dimly through the fog, and you will not be able to hear me. For that matter you will not be able to hear yourself think. But if you can get all the way around the square and back to this road, all the energy of the waterfall will be yours." The old man continues. "There are four roads that enter the square, which, you will soon see is really more of a circle. It would be best if you started out to your right. But you may find that you have to go against the traffic. No matter what, I will be with you, but you will not see me or hear me."
