PERSON-CENTERED LEADERSHIP

Length of Program: Initial meeting of two days, periodic meetings over three months
Number of Participants: Between 12 and twenty 20
Physical Setting: Classroom setting

Basic Premise:

At the request of a major corporation, we have designed a comprehensive leadership training program which combines several workshops with ongoing work projects and individual coaching sessions.

The program is called Person-Centered Leadership because it is built on the assumption that each person brings a distinctive personality to the task of leading. Therefore, our initial concern is to develop awareness of one's natural gifts; only at that point do we move on to developing additional leadership skills.

The present design calls for seven full-day sessions with a small group -- generally between twelve and twenty persons.

The program might follow this format:

  • Day One: Identifying your natural gifts for leadership
  • Day Two: Identifying areas for leadership development
  • Day Three: Developing communication skills and systems (involving video taping of meetings and one-on-one sessions)
  • Day Four: The management of change (including diversity training)
  • Day Five: The management of conflict (including stress management)
  • Day Six: The encouragement of creativity
  • Day Seven: Conclusion the program with presentations of work projects
